Chikanobu Yoshu, Japanese, 1838 To 1912, Triptych Woodblock Print Titled Clam Digging, A Captivating Depiction Of Women Gathering Shells At Low Tide. This Artwork Is Part Of The Series Noble Ladies In The Tokugawa Era, Reflecting Scenes From The Prosperous Tokugawa Period In Japanese History. Published In 1897 By Hasegawa Tsunejiro, Toyohara Chikanobu, Japan 1838 To 1912), Better Known To His Contemporaries As Yoshu Chikanobu, Was A Japanese Painter And Printmaker Who Was Widely Regarded As A Prolific Woodblock Artist During The Meiji Epoch. Chikanobu Was A Retainer Of The Sakakibara Clan Of Takada Domain In Echigo Province. After The Collapse Of The Tokugawa Shogunate, He Joined The Shogitai And Fought In The Battle Of Ueno. In 1875 (Meiji 8), He Decided To Try To Make A Living As An Artist. He Traveled To Tokyo And Found Work As An Artist For The Kaishin Shimbun. In Addition, He Produced Nishiki-E Artworks.
