Harunobu Hishikawa, Japanese, Active 1875 To 1891, Color Woodblock Print On Paper, Picture Of A Grand Fundraising Sumo Tournament. Published By Matsuki Heikichi. Circa: 1850 To 1899. Signed And Inscribed With Calligraphy, Upper Right And Left, And Lower Right And Left. Harunobu Hishikawa Allegedly Was Part Of The Hishikawa School, Founded By Hishikawa Moronobu, 1618 To 1694. He Specialized In Sumo Prints And Was Active During The Meiji Period. Antique Asian And Oriental Graphic Art Prints And Collectibles. Dimensions 25.3 X 54.5 Cm, All Measurements Are Approximate. Overall Good Antique Condition. Panels Joined, Light Discoloration, Creases And Folds, Some Wormholes And Glue Stains. Signs Of Wear And Age. Refer To Photos. Sold As Is. Hishikawa Harunobu, Possibly A Member Of The Hishikawa School Founded By Hishikawa Moronobu (1618 To 1694), No Information Seems To Exist About This Artist, Other Than He Created A Number Of Sumo Prints And One Triptych Picturing Momotaro, The Legendary Peach Boy, As Shown Below. The Romanization Of His Given Name Varies And At The Suggestion Of Maribeth Graybill, The Arlene And Harold Schnitzer Curator Of Asian Artt At The Portland Art Museum, We Have Used Harunobu, Which Is How The Website Of The Chiba City Museum Of Art Shows His Name. Other Romanizations Of His Name Include Hishikawa Syunsen, Hishikawa Shunsen And Hishikawa Harusen.
