Mckay Was Born And Raised In Washington D.C., Where She Attended The Prestigious Corcoran Institute Of Art. After Her Graduation From Corcoran In 1951 She Moved To Paris To Study At Ecole Fernand Leger, Experimenting With His Cubist Style. Around This Time She Began Developing Her Characteristic Abstract Style Which Can Be Seen In This Piece. Mckay Would Soon Befriend French Art Critic Michel Tapie Who Would Become Her Mentor And Help Her Begin Exhibiting, Particularly At The Gallery Of Martha Jackson In New York City. McKay’s work was included in the 1920 exhibition Unsung Heroines 1967-1996: Women Artists from the Allan Stone Collection, an exhibition of some of the women whose work the storied gallery had presented.
